.Our wonderful Orchestra program in Oxford Community Schools provides two elementary orchestra ensembles that meet daily at Lakeville Elementary and Oxford Middle Schools.
The Second Year Orchestra is made up of students who have previous experience with a stringed instrument and a basic fluency for music reading. This orchestra introduces students to ensemble playing and students learn the basics about what orchestras are, how they rehearse, and how they perform through playing and learning in a larger ensemble. This class covers basic left hand and right hand shapes, healthy playing posture, basic major/minor scales, different bow strokes such as staccato, legato, bow lifts, and accented bows, key signatures, time signatures, and composition.
The 2nd year orchestra performs in two concerts a year, one in winter and one in spring. The Second Year Orchestra meets daily at Oxford Middle School from 7:30-8:25am.
